It doesn’t take a genius to realize that modern commercial hip-hop is all about production. Though it might be hard for some to accept, there is very little weight in lyrics anymore and hit records almost always come about due to the producer rather than the artist.
Due to this reality, I figured we should give some shine to the real hitmakers. In the first installment of our Behind the Boards series, I’d like to introduce you to Greywood.
The Nashville-based producer has been making music for years and has recently displayed a level of talent that I didn’t know was possible for a human to possess. By spending countless hours and nit-picking every part of his work, Greywood has developed one of the most unique and hard-hitting sounds I’ve ever heard.
Trap sounds and 808’s are undeniably overused in hip-hop producion, but Greywood consistently does a fantastic job of combining these popular sounds into intellegent-sounding music.
With a sound as hard-hitting as Metro Boomin’ and unique musical elements that aren’t typically found in this style of music, Greywood has developed one of the most unique sounds I’ve ever come across. To put it simply, I honestly believe nothing in the world hits harder than a Greywood beat.
Listen for yourself.
