Schoolboy Q released the second part of his pre-album film in preparation for the July 8 Blank Face release. Both installments feature track names off the album and merge drama, humor and realist film with teasing cuts off the album. A possible third chapter could subsequently be released between now and the album drop, with part II also closing with a “To Be Continued . . .”
The TDE emcee told Hot 97 before this week’s BET Awards the video series was inspired by Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” cinematic. “I thought it would be cool to do a street version, where I come from,” he told Nessa before the award show. Q also referenced the previous confusion around the album cover art release, which originally featured the crying Jordan meme. “I had a series of pictures I was going to post, but websites are so thirsty,” he said. “Within two minutes before I could even upload my next picture, it was all over the ‘net saying ‘Schoolboy Q album cover’.” Example A, B, C of many of the initial meme reaction. The meme buzz was reminiscent to Q’s official Twitter statement on the Kanye/Wiz Khalifa beef :
“I fucks wit botH I’m jus Here for da memes r wateva dem sHits called”
The official official album cover along with the iTunes pre-order was soon after released. The 17 song track list highlights features with fellow West Coast emcees Vince Staples, E-40, Anderson .Paak; NY legend Jadakiss, TDE songstress SZA and of course Kanye West, who features on the lead single “THat Part”.
Production off the album (s/o ktt) leads with Chicago duo Nez and Rio, producers of “Man Of The Year“. Other production highlights include Alchemist, Metro Boomin, Tyler the Creator and Kendrick Lamar.
The album drops Friday, July 8. You can pre-order the project off iTunes below and check back here for any new release updates over the next week.
